On Monday, the High Court of Bogotá, Colombia, ruled.Former Colombian President Uribe was not guilty of bribery or fraud. The guilty verdict in the first instance was overturned. The judge said the first-instance ruling was filled with serious biases and cited flawed arguments. Uribe and his defense team attended the trial on video that day and heard the outcome of the ruling.

On August 1, a court in the Colombian capital Bogotá ruled that former President Uribey was found guilty of bribery and fraud and sentenced to 12 years of house imprisonment.

Uribe, 73, served as President of Colombia from 2002 to 2010. Previously, he served as Governor of the northwestern province of Antioquia from 1995 to 1998. In 2012, Senator Ivan Sepeda accused Uribe of being infected with Antiochian military agencies and some drug trafficking groups in the territory. Uribe denied the accusations and indicated that Uribe was pressured to visit former armed personnel when he went to prison, forcing them to make false accusations.

In 2018, the Supreme Court of Colombia ruled that Cepeda did not bribe or exert pressure in the process of collecting evidence. In 2024, the Colombian General Prosecutor's Office formally filed a lawsuit with the court, accusing Uribe of bribery, fraud and other charges. (General reporter Deng Xuemei)
