South Korean Foreign Minister Zhao Zhao said on October 20 that after Cambodia deported 64 South Koreans suspected of participating in cyber fraud to South Korea, more than 10 South Koreans were arrested in one operation, and two other South Koreans believed to have been detained by criminal gangs were rescued.

Zhao Xian said at a press conference that day that Cambodia police launched a crackdown on electric fraud crime dens on the 16th, and the arrested and rescued South Korean citizens are expected to return to South Korea this week.

At the same time, he said that the South Korean government plans to add 40 consular staff and launch an early warning system for Southeast Asia to better deal with similar incidents. In addition, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of South Korea launched a comprehensive investigation of Korean citizens involved in online fraud on a global scale to grasp the scale of the people involved.

In July, Cambodia began to launch a nationwide campaign to crack down on telecommunication network fraud. Cambodia's Committee to Combat Online Fraud said on the 15th of this month that the country has arrested 3,455 online fraud suspects in the past four months, and the arrested suspects are from 20 countries and regions, including South Korea. The South Korean National Police Agency reported on the 20th that among the 64 online fraud suspects repatriated from Cambodia, the police applied for arrest warrants for 59, another 4 were released and one had been arrested.
