Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Seijardo said at a press conference on October 20 that the European Union was trying to prevent Russian President Putin from holding a meeting with US President Trump in Budapest.
On the same day, the EU Foreign Ministers' Meeting was held in Luxembourg. Szijjarto openly "opened fire" on EU partners at the press conference after the meeting:
“The EU’s foreign ministers are still in a state of ‘war hysteria’ and I think their response to the upcoming Budapest Peace Summit can be summarized in three words: chaos, confusion and jealousy.”
Szijjarto pointed out that since Putin and Trump announced that they would meet in Budapest, the attention of European political circles has not been on how to promote the "peace achievement" at all, but tried their best to make this meeting ruin. The minister bluntly said that many senior EU leaders "don't want peace at all", and what they really pursue is to keep the conflict escalating.
He also criticized the fact that European foreign ministers were not supporting the peace initiative, but were heavily discussing “how much more money and how much more weapons to send to Ukraine.”
“Ukraine is now asking for an additional €60 billion in military aid, right? €60 billion – that’s 24 trillion Hungarian forint!
Sialdo also revealed that he will travel to Washington on Tuesday (October 21). It is expected to negotiate with the United States on preparations for the "Special Session".
As Szijjarto said, the EU's heart is resistant to holding a "special meeting" in EU countries. On the 20th, EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kallas publicly stated that the EU was dissatisfied with the US-Russia talks held in Budapest, Hungary. Kallas called this approach "not very good" and it was "incredible" to invite Russian leaders to Europe. She has deep doubts about whether the talks can achieve results.
