Zelensky: Ready for Territorial Negotiations

Source: Shangguan News

According to the People's Daily citing a report by RIA Novosti on the 19th, Ukrainian President Zelensky stated that he is ready to negotiate territorial issues based on the current belligerent line of contact and stressed that he agrees to any form of dialogue.

Reported that Zelensky said in an interview with NBC TV: "We need to end this war, and it starts from where the soldiers are, that is, from the line of contact."

He pointed out that he was ready to negotiate "in any form."

Zelensky said that during his meeting with U.S. President Trump in Washington, he had raised questions about Ukraine’s participation in the Budapest meeting of Russian-American leaders, he said: “We have discussed this issue. The U.S. side will discuss this with Putin. I think that if we really want to lasting peace, we need both sides to participate.”

The report mentioned that on October 16, the presidents of Russia and the United States had a telephone conversation. The two sides specifically discussed the situation in Ukraine. Trump later announced that he planned to hold a meeting with Putin in Budapest.

After a phone call with Putin, Trump and Zelensky had a tense meeting on the 17th to put pressure on territorial issues. Trump disappointed the Ukrainian delegation by urging Ukraine to cede large swathes of territory to Russia. Zelensky told reporters after the meeting that territorial concessions are a "sensitive" and "difficult" issue.

According to Xinhua Agency, Zelensky said in a meeting with reporters on the 19th that Uzbekistan's position on the terms of the armistice has not changed. Russia demands that Uzbekistan fully withdraw from the Donetsk region and Lugansk region of Donbas. Uzbekistan refused to accept this.

Zelensky said that during his visit to Washington last week he “explained” to U.S. President Donald Trump and U.S. Special Envoy for the Middle East that Ukraine’s position on the issue had not changed. Witkov communicated Russian ideas to him, saying that regions such as Donetsk and Lugansk had been “publicly invaded” and written into the Russian constitution. Zelensky declined to accept this claim and said that Ukraine could also write the “two states” of Russia into the constitution, but that Russia would not withdraw from there.
