Xinhua Agency, United Nations, October 20. The United Nations country team in Yemen issued a brief statement to the media on the 20th, saying that among the 20 United Nations employees recently detained by the Houthi armed forces in Yemen, 5 Yemeni employees have been released, and 15 foreign employees can move freely in the residential area and liaise with their respective United Nations agencies and their families. The remaining detainees include UNICEF representative in Yemen, Peter Hawkins, and foreign representatives from several UN agencies and international organizations. The Houthi armed forces attacked the United Nations residential district in Sanaa, Yemen’s capital, on Tuesday, detaining several UN officials. The Houthi armed forces released 11 Yemeni employees on the evening of 19 and the remaining 20 detained employees were 15 foreigners and five Yemenis. Houthi armed leader Abdul Malik Hussein said on Saturday that there were “dangerous spy groups” inside humanitarian organizations operating in Yemen that assisted Israel’s airstrikes in the Sanaa in late August, killing several Houthi armed personnel.
