U.S. Guard may remain in Washington, DC indefinitely

Central TV reporter was informed on October 20 local time, a court document issued by the Office of the Attorney General of the District of Washington showed,National Guard members deployed in the capital “may remain indefinitely—at least until the summer of 2026.”

The document pointed out that the evidence handed over from the Trump administration shows that the government "has no intention of ending this deployment in the near future". National Guard General Leland Blanchard has told his subordinates to "prepare for a long-term and sustained garrison," which is expected to last at least until the "250th anniversary of the founding of the United States" celebrations in July 2026.

In addition, the Trump administration has extended the tenure of all National Guard personnel until Nov. 30. The Attorney General's Office in Washington, D.C. believes that the government's move constitutes a "serious violation" of local sovereignty and has caused "irreparable damage", so it requests the court to block this continued deployment.

Trump announced on August 11 that he would dispatch the National Guard to help restore law and order and public safety in Washington, and also called Democrat-run cities such as Chicago, Los Angeles, and New York "problem cities." (CCTV reporter Liu Xiaoqian)
