Putin's ceasefire conditions: strategic adjustments and core demands
The Russia-Ukraine conflict has now entered a new stage, and Putin's ceasefire conditions have shown the dual characteristics of tactical adjustment and strategic persistence.
According to Reuters, Trump insisted on Ukraine's complete withdrawal from the Donbas area in his new proposal, but in exchange, Moscow was willing to cease fire in the Zaporozhye and Kherson areas.
This scheme shows some flexibility in comparison to a position in June 2024, which required the abandonment of the entire territory of the four provinces.
At the Putt meeting in Alaska in August 2025, Putin proposed a number of conditions, including the withdrawal of all Ukrainian troops from Donbass and Ukraine's renunciation to NATO membership.
Geographical issues and security are at the heart of Russia, which demands that Ukraine give up NATO membership, and demands that NATO make a legally binding commitment not to expand eastward.
Battlefield Reality: The Russian Army Advances the Difficulty With the Ukrainian Army

Trump's pressure: from warning to supporting a ceasefire on the ground
Trump has adopted a very tough pressure attitude towards Ukraine, which has obviously deviated from the traditional U.S. support position for Ukraine.
During a meeting in Washington, Trump directly urged Zelinsky to accept a Russian ceasefire and also warned that otherwise he would face the danger of being destroyed.
However, at the insistence of Ukraine, Trump's attitude has undergone very subtle changes.
The Ukrainian side eventually succeeded in persuading Trump to support a proposal to freeze the current front, and Trump after the meeting called on Russia to reach an agreement, a ceasefire on the ground, "they each declared victory."

Ukraine’s position: Staying on the bottom line and responding flexibly
Faced with the dual pressure from the United States and Russia, Ukraine has also demonstrated its principles and flexible coping strategies.
Zelensky has made it clear that the Ukrainian side is willing to conduct peace talks, but will not make concessions to Russia, he also stressed that in order to a ceasefire after the negotiations should be opened, the parties in the conflict should stay on the current line of contact.
Regarding the Donbas region, Zelensky's attitude is very firm: If we are talking about simply withdrawing troops from the east, we cannot do it, which is related to the survival of the country.
At the same time, Ukraine is actively seeking more military aid, Zelensky once suggested using large numbers of Ukrainian-produced drones in exchange for the U.S. cruise missiles.
But Trumps said providing Tomahawk cruise missiles to Ukraine would lead to an escalation of the situation, and Ukraine would not currently get the long-range missiles they desperately need.
Outlook for the future: The road to peace is still long
The solution of the conflict in Ukraine still depends on the interaction of many complex factors.
The key contradiction focuses on two issues: territorial sovereignty and post-suspension preconditions. The Russian side is demanding that Uk recognize their control over Donbas and Crimea.
On the other hand, Ukraine insists on restoring the 1991 borders, Russia insists on a ceasefire after the withdrawal of Ukraine troops. Ukraine demands a comprehensive ceasefire before negotiating.
The diplomatic solution is still in operation, Trump said in Hungary will be a bilateral meeting with Putin, and he also said he will keep in touch with Zelensky during the meeting with Putin.
Budapest could be the stage for the next diplomatic game, Zelensky has already said he is willing to attend the Trump-Putin meeting in Hungary, and Trump is also actively arranging the face-to-face conversation.
But the more brutal strategic difficulty facing Ukraine is that accepting conditions that do not favor a ceasefire may temporarily freeze the conflict, but will lose territory, will face greater losses if resistance continues, and the support of the West is full of uncertainty.
