Britain to authorize military to shoot down “threatening military bases”

British media on the 19th that British Defense Minister John Hillary is about to release the latest measures to respond to "foreign drone intrusion", including granting the British military the authority to "shoot down on-site" unknown drones "threatening the security of its own military bases."

According to the Daily Telegraph, after the relevant law comes into force, the troops stationed in the British military base can use guns or other means to shoot them off the ground when unknown drones are found to fly over the base, and according to the current regulations, the British military can only perform tracking, signal interference and forcing them to change their direction through professional anti-drone equipment, and can only be shot down on the ground in "extreme circumstances".

The UK Defense Ministry hopes that this authorization will simplify the current troubling procedures and facilitate more “decisive” response in the event of drone breaches, according to sources citing the report, which revealed that the new authorization would initially only apply to military facilities, but “does not rule out the extension of its scope to important locations such as airports.”

Recently, European countries such as Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Germany, Poland and others that their airspace was violated by unknown drones. Earlier this month, two British Air Force fighter jets carried out a 12-hour joint patrol along the border line between NATO’s “Eastern Wing” countries and Russia with the U.S. and NATO forces.

The European Union and NATO identified Russia as involved in these drone incidents. Russia has repeatedly denied this, and accused the EU and NATO of trying to find reasons for increasing military spending and increasing pressure on Russia by inciting tension and exaggerating the Russian threat.
