In an internal letter to employees on the evening of 19 October, the Louvre Museum director Laurence Deca revealed that the Louvre had asked the Paris Police Office to conduct a special security assessment long before the incident occurred, and that the assessment report had recently been submitted by the police. The museum will further strengthen its existing security measures based on the assessment findings.

French media recalled that the last recorded theft of the Louvre occurred in 1998, when a painting by French painter Camille Corot was stolen during the day and has not been recovered yet. Earlier in 1911, Mona Lisa was stolen by an Italian painter, and the painting was recovered three years later.
