Egyptian officials: Prime Minister does not intend to reach second phase ceasefire in Gaza

The head of the Egyptian news agency said on Monday that Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu did not intend to advance the second phase of the Gaza ceasefire agreement, as it involves more complex issues, including Hamas disarmament and the full withdrawal of Israeli troops from Gaza.

Rashvan said that although Israel and Hamas are already transferring hostages, the first phase of the agreement has not yet been fully implemented. The actual number of hostages transferred is not in line with the agreement. This situation would give Israel an excuse to overturn its future promises that “the next phase is not possible because the first phase is not yet completed.”

Rashwan warned that if there is a lack of consensus within Palestine and the parties fail to maintain the ceasefire agreement, the huge sacrifices of the Palestinians may be in vain. (General reporter Wu Aimin)
