On October 12, 2025, the annual celebration of the National Day of Spain was held at the Plaza de Canoas del Castillo in Madrid, Spain. King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia, together with two princesses, Leonor and Sofia, hosted a solemn flag-lifting ceremony and parade.
Different from previous years, this year's celebration not only demonstrated the majestic tradition of the royal family, but also demonstrated to the world a Spanish royal family with both traditional heritage and modern vitality through the mature performance of the two princesses.
At the military parade, King Felipe wore a navy white dress, and the golden spikes and ribbons on the epaulettes showed the deep connection between the royal family and the army. Queen Letizia, on the other hand, chose a forest green high-definition dress, which was simple in tailoring but hidden oriental embroidery patterns, and was elegant and modern.
Back at the National Day reception held at the Royal Palace of Madrid, Queen Letizia took off her windbreaker and wore a gorgeous green dress with ruby earrings. Her exquisite makeup was painted with pink eye shadow, making her age-reducing and charming.
As the heir to the Spanish throne, 19-year-old Princess Leonor performed well in this National Day celebration. She is dressed in a dark blue military uniform and a military hat of the same color. She is tall and straight and full of heroic spirit.
Currently, Princess Leonor is undergoing three-year military training to prepare for the future position of commander-in-chief of the Spanish Armed Forces. She has completed Army training and is currently studying at the Naval Military Academy. She will also receive Air Force training in the future.
At the parade ceremony, the princess Leonor, like her father, drowned in the rain, performed military rites, even if she was wet, still held up her chest, and looked gentle. This stubborn expression makes it difficult to imagine that she was the little girl who was a few years ago at the National Day event.
At the reception venue, the Golden Shepherd Knights' Banner worn on Princess Leonor's neck shone brightly, resonating with the same medal worn by King Felipe VI's father, suggesting the hidden ritual of the throne inheritance.
This year's National Day has a special significance for Princess Sophia - this is the first time she has officially participated in the National Day palace reception since she was 18, although she has previously attended the military link of the National Day celebration with her parents, it is the first time to participate in such a grand palace reception.
For this remarkable debut, Princess Sophia chose a piece from her mother's beloved designer brand Caroline Helena. She wore a black-and-white wave-shaped dress, the length of the dress was shortened and more youthful.
Thro the event, Princess Sophia always stood on the right side of her sister Leonor, exchanging silent eyes from time to time, and even outside the camera sharing a sense of humor that can only be understood by each other.
Currently, Princess Sophia is studying Political Science and International Relations at Forward College in Lisbon. Unlike her sister choosing military training, her university studies will spread across three European cities, Lisbon, Paris and Berlin, and give her a full range of European cultural experiences.
After the reception, members of the royal family walked into the throne room with smiles and welcomed more than a thousand guests from the political, literary and artistic circles, sports and religious circles.
