Syrian media say Israel invaded southern Syria and set up checkpoints

According to Syrian local media "News Station", on 18 local time, Israeli troops invaded the countryside of Kunetla in southern Syria, set up an inspection station on the road connecting the towns of Ophania and Juba al-Hayab, while intimidating civilians.

The Syrian regime has not commented on the incident.

In recent months, the Israeli army has launched several cross-border attacks on southern Syria’s provinces, including Kunetra. After the end of Bashar al-Assad’s regime in 2024, Israel expanded its occupation of the Golan Heights and occupied the de-military buffer zone, in violation of the Armed Forces Disconnection Agreement signed with Syria in 1974.
