Iran announces termination: thanks to China and other countries

On the morning of 18 October local time, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Iran issued a statement announcing that UN Security Council Resolution 2231 had officially expired on the same day, and from that day on, all provisions of the resolution, including the relevant restrictions on Iran's nuclear program and its attached mechanisms, are considered to be terminated. The Iranian nuclear issue, which was included on the Security Council agenda as "prevention of proliferation", should also be removed from the UN Security Council agenda.

The statement emphasizes that Security Council Resolution 2231 and its Annex to the Iran Nuclear Agreement are important outcomes of multilateral diplomacy, but because the United States unilaterally withdrew from the Iran Nuclear Agreement in 2018, the three European countries, Britain, France and Germany, failed to fulfill their commitments, causing the outcome to be severely damaged.

Iran reiterated the peaceful nature of its nuclear program, condemned the attacks by the United States and Israel on its territory and nuclear facilities, and expressed gratitude for the responsible position of countries such as China, Russia, Algeria and Pakistan in the Security Council.

Iran will continue to adhere to the diplomatic path and safeguard its legitimate rights and interests in areas such as the peaceful use of nuclear energy.

On the same day, Iranian Foreign Minister Al-Araqi sent a letter to UN Secretary-General Guterres and the rotating chairman of the UN Security Council, Russia's Permanent Representative to the UN, reaffirming that Security Council Resolution 2231 has been formally terminated, and urging the UN Secretariat to abide by neutrality, urging member states to acknowledge the fact of the termination of the resolution and refuse to implement any illegal sanctions.
