Xinhua Agency, Cairo, October 17 Long-term planning plays an important role in promoting China’s development in various fields – Amir Tamam, Vice-General Editor of the Egyptian News Agency The New York Times journalist Yao Zhang. Amir Tamam, deputy editor-in-chief of the Egyptian newspaper, said in an interview in Cairo that China’s long-term planning has provided important tools to address challenges and played an important role in promoting development in various fields. 2025 is the "closing year" of China's "14th Five-Year Plan". Tamam believes that China's development focus has shifted to high-quality development, which has enhanced the reputation of China's export products, such as electric vehicles. He said that China focuses on economic growth, technological innovation, environmental protection and social welfare. These efforts improve the living standards of domestic people and benefit the world, and many countries benefit from them. Tamam used keywords such as "diversity, innovation and openness" to describe the development characteristics of China over the past five years. He said that despite the challenges, China still maintained an economic growth rate of around 5%, demonstrating the forward-looking nature of its strategic planning and its own development resilience. "China's contribution to global economic growth reaches about 30%. In this world full of uncertainty, China has become the cornerstone of stability." Tamam said that China has proposed the Belt and Road Initiative, the Global Development Initiative, the Global Security Initiative, the Global Civilization Initiative, and the Global Governance Initiative, all of which are integrated into China's long-term planning and aim to common development with other countries. He said the Belt and Road Initiative has achieved tangible benefits in the fields of infrastructure construction, trade and investment, and Egypt is a model for win-win cooperation with China on green economy and infrastructure-related projects. Tamam expects that in the next five years, China will continue to prioritize scientific and technological innovation, artificial intelligence, the digital economy and climate change. "China's development stems from the people and serves the people." China has become an inspiring model by turning human capital into a growth driver, Tamam said. He believes that the common characteristics and political consensus among countries in the global south make it easier for developing countries to learn from China's experience.
