On October 18, Colombia's President Petro Poroshenko sent a statement on social media that strongly condemned the American side's death of a Colombian fisherman in the territorial sea on September 16 and asked the US side to explain the incident.

Petro said the victim, named Alexandro Kalanza, lived daily fishing and was not associated with any drug trafficking network.He said that at the time of the incident, Kalanza's vessel was floating in the sea due to engine failure and sent a clear rescue signal.

Petro said that he had asked the Colombian Attorney General's Office to take immediate action on this incident, provide protection for the families of the victims, and join victims from other countries to file judicial proceedings with the United States.

Colombia national television reported on the 18th that according to Carranza's family, one of the ships previously attacked by US missiles in the Caribbean was flying the Colombia flag. The report said that the United States had previously claimed that the attack was aimed at a vessel related to drug trafficking, but investigations showed that the vessel was a hand-operated fishing boat and was in a mechanical failure state when it was bombed.
