Pakistani and Afghan government officials confirmed on Monday that the two sides had reached a ceasefire agreement.
Pakistani Defense Minister Khwaja Asif issued a statement through social media X in the early morning that day, saying that Pakistan and Afghanistan had reached a ceasefire agreement. The two sides agreed to meet again in Istanbul, Turkey on October 25th to discuss specific mechanisms for implementing the ceasefire agreement and strengthening security cooperation.
On the same day, Afghan government spokesman Zabiullah Mujahid posted on social media X that Afghanistan and Pakistan signed a bilateral agreement after holding negotiations in Doha, the capital of Qatar, establishing a comprehensive and meaningful ceasefire. Under the agreement, both sides reaffirmed their commitment to peace, mutual respect and maintaining strong and constructive good-neighborly relations. The two countries also promised to resolve disputes through dialogue and refrain from hostile actions against each other.
Qatar's Foreign Ministry said in a statement on Monday that Pakistan and Afghanistan had held talks in Doha under mediation between Qatar and Turkey and that the two sides agreed to an immediate ceasefire and establish mechanisms to consolidate lasting peace and stability between the two countries.
