Germany announces a big order: purchase 20 aircraft!

According to a report on the US "The Aviationist" website on the 16th, Germany signed a contract to purchase 20 new "Typhoon" fighter jets on October 15, 2025. The French newspaper "Echo" stated that former German Chancellor Scholz announced the procurement plan at the Berlin International Air Show in June 2024, and now the German Parliament has finally approved the procurement of these "Typhoon" fighter jets for the German Air Force.

Under the contract, Airbus will manufacture the fighter aircraft on the assembly line in Manchester, Germany. The first aircraft is scheduled to be delivered in 2031 and the last one will be delivered in 2034. Neither European fighter aircraft companies nor Airbus have disclosed the value of the contract.

According to reports, Scholz has said that the deal is part of Germany's commitment to maintain and expand its weapons production capabilities and to strengthen Germany's commitment to NATO.

Airbus said in its press release that it will be equipped with the latest sensors for the 20 Typhoon fighters, including the latest ECRS Mk1 radar (European Fighter General Radar System Mark 1). Airbus also said it will enhance new electronic warfare capabilities by integrating Sabo’s Arexis sensor kit into its new production aircraft.

The latest Typhoon fighter jet is planned to serve in the German Air Force until the 2060s. According to the plan, the Typhoon fighter jet will be in service with the Future Combat Aviation System (FCAS) jointly developed by many European countries, which is scheduled to be put into use around 2040.

In addition to purchasing new fighter jets, Germany has also approved a contract to continue developing the EK Typhoon fighter model, a fighter jet specifically designed to suppress enemy air defense systems.
