As we all know, starting from October 14, China has begun to collect port fees from ships related to the United States.
At present, most American ships stopping at Chinese ports have taken the initiative to pay port fees according to the requirements of the Chinese side in order to complete loading, delivery and transportation of tourists in time. After all, although the port fee may be several million yuan, if they breach the contract, the losses faced by these ships will be far more than this price.
However, among these ships, there are also very hard-hitting ships. After receiving the notice of payment of port fees from China, they even refused to pay the fees. Of course, the consequence of this is that all Chinese ports are suspended from opening to them, and no berthing and operation permits are granted.
Recently, a U.S. luxury cruise ship called the "Blue Coast" (Riviera) abandoned the Chinese port because it refused to pay a port fee of 11.67 million yuan to Chinese ports.
After inquiring the information, it was found that the "Riviera" is a luxury cruise ship affiliated with the Regent Seven Seas Cruises Company of the United States. The production cost alone is as high as US$5 billion. It was officially launched and delivered in 2012. It is the sister ship of the "Marina". Currently, the Riviera is the flagship cruise ship of the American cruise company, holding the company's hopes for the future.
It can be seen that this is an American ship manufactured by an American shipbuilding company and operated by an American company. Therefore, according to China's new countermeasures regulations, a port fee of 11.67 million yuan will be required.
On the other hand, the "Riviera" is a world-renowned luxury cruise ship with a tonnage of 65,000 tons, larger than aircraft carriers in many countries. The various facilities inside are also very luxurious, and the fare is naturally not low. Therefore, on every voyage, the Riviera will definitely be able to earn very high profits. Logically speaking, the port fee of 11.67 million yuan is completely affordable.
So the question arises, “Why would Riviera prefer to give up on Chinese ports rather than pay port charges to Chinese ports like other ships?”
The U.S. Liquid Seven Seas Cruise Company, headquartered at the “Blue Coast” (Riviera), is unwilling to blame the U.S. authorities in order to stop at Chinese ports;
2. As a luxury cruise ship, the management company of "Riviera" is used to being arrogant and unwilling to bow its head and admit defeat. It believes that China's countermeasures will not last long, so it temporarily chooses to call at Chinese ports and then observe the subsequent changes of China's countermeasures.
I have to say that the Riviera was really a tough guy this time. You know, it is a luxury cruise ship. The people who can ride it are either rich or expensive. Their time is very precious. If China is missing, it will look bleak. How can we talk about global travel?
As a cruise ship, the Riviera itself has the obligation to smoothly bring tourists to every stop agreed in the contract. Now that it gives up calling at China ports, it means a breach of contract. It is estimated that in the next few days, angry tourists will file sky-high claims, which will definitely be much higher than the 11.67 million yuan port fees they need to pay.
Of course, this is the cruise ship Riviera's own decision. It would rather bear the sky-high claim of tourists than pay the port fee, and all the consequences can only be borne by itself.
