A Thai man from Mahatma Sarakham was scammed by a woman he knew on a dating app, owed more than 200,000 baht in debt, and was forced to have sex.
The 25-year-old victim appealed to the non-profit organization “Saimai Survive” in hopes that it would assist in the case and bring the suspect to justice. The man said the incident began in July last year when he met a 30-year-old woman who called herself “Ploy” through a dating app.
Ploy claims to run a textile factory in Bangkok. The man thinks her career is stable and outstanding and talks with her every day, but Ploy always refuses to show up in video calls, calling herself "shy."
Despite this, she would send photos frequently, totaling more than 50, convincing men that her identity was true. Ten days later, Ploy borrowed 1,000 baht from him, and then asked for a loan several times on the grounds that "the factory needed funds to receive large orders." The amount was about 4,000 to 5,000 baht each time.
When the man refused to send money again, Ploy said the factory was in crisis and even threatened to "suicide."For sympathy, the man continued to lend to colleagues, accumulating more than 200,000 baht, also gave his car code as 60,000 baht, and transferred the company's annual bonus of 57,000 baht in full to her.
In June this year, the man decided to meet Ploy in person due to unemployment and debt problems. However, she refused to meet on the grounds that she had "moved back to Si Saket." The man then went to Sisuju Mansion to find her, but Ploy still refused to see her. Finally, he proposed that "we have to have sex first before we can meet."
After meeting, he discovered that Ploy's real appearance was completely different from the photo, but he still did so, hoping that she would fulfill her promise to return the money, and the other party did not pay the money.
Ekkaphop Luangprasert, founder of Saimai Survive, said the woman’s behavior was a fraud and will face harsh punishment. He will accompany the victims to the Wang Noi Police Station for reporting, as the bank accounts involved were opened in the area.
