Russian President Vladimir Putin plans to fly to Hungary’s capital Budapest, taking into account EU sanctions and airspace bans, and the Russian government’s special aircraft have been banned from flying across most European countries’ airspace.
It is that the most likely route Putin will take through the Black Sea, Turkey, the Mediterranean, Montenegro and Serbia, eventually entering Hungary from Serbia’s airspace.
The route is significantly longer than the approximately 1,500-kilometre flight from Moscow directly to Budapest, with the total distance expected to reach about 5,000 kilometers, and the flight time will increase by about three hours.
To prevent the threat of drones and missiles, Putin’s special aircraft will be escorted jointly by Russian and Turkish fighter jets to provide security protection throughout the flight.
This rare transnational escort arrangement demonstrates the great importance of the Russian side to the security of the presidential visit, and also highlights the current tension in the security situation in Europe.
