UN: Cholera outbreak in Sudan has infected more than 120,000 people

On October 18, local time, the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs stated that since the latest round of cholera outbreak broke out in Sudan in July 2024,The country has cumulatively more than 120,000 cases of infection, with more than 3,000 deaths.

According to the agency, the armed conflict in Sudan has caused about 75% of the country’s medical facilities to be inactive, and millions of locals have no access to clean drinking water and basic medical services.The current cholera outbreak continues to spread rapidly in Sudan, and local health systems are difficult to cope with.

On April 15, 2023, an armed conflict broke out between the Sudanese Armed Forces and the Rapid Support Force in the capital Khartoum, and the fighting subsequently spread to other areas.
