Two days ago, Dmitryyev, chairman of the Russian Direct Investment Foundation, said that the future can be used by Boring Company’s technology to build the cross-continental tunnel of the Beirut Strait – the “Putin-Trump” railway tunnel, and the Russian side has studied existing proposals, including the US-Central Railway, and supported the most feasible ones.
Dmitriev also posted a sketch of a railway tunnel on social media and said that the "Kennedy-Khrushchev World Peace Bridge" can and should be built immediately between Alaska and Russia.
In response to this matter, US President Trump responded on October 18, saying that "this idea is very interesting", and then he threw the topic to Ukrainian President Zelensky who attended the same press conference, saying, "I don't like this idea".
However, whether Zelensky likes it or not, some things are really beyond Ukraine's control. Dmitriev then spoke out again on social media, saying that after Trump and Zelensky mentioned the Russia-US tunnel project, discussions about tunnel construction began.
Ironically, due to its alliance with Ukraine, the United States and Russia are almost in a "hostile state." However, when Zelensky visited the United States, the United States and Russia quietly discussed the construction of the "Putin-Trump" railway tunnel. To a certain extent, this is a contempt for Ukraine by the United States. It may also indicate that the United States will once again adjust its stance on the Russia-Ukraine conflict and pressure Zelensky to accept a ceasefire.
In fact, after speaking with Zelensky, Trump said, "I think that Russia should immediately stop the conflict and border with the current front, no matter where the front is now," and he strongly suggested that both sides declare victory, and judge by history.
As things have developed to this point, I highly suspect that the interaction between the United States and Russia is a joint pressure against Ukraine, or Trump's "art of negotiation", intending to use US-Russia relations to show a better momentum and force Zelensky to make a compromise and reach a peace agreement with Russia as soon as possible.
We have seen similar things many times in the past, and Trump has repeatedly boasted of his "art of negotiation", and it is difficult to say that Zelensky's visit to the United States, US Russia or the United States did not set up a national-class "killing dish".
Of course, the problem of the Russian-Ukrainian conflict is only a backstory, after all, there are no signs of an immediate solution at the moment, so more interesting is the “Putin-Trump” railway tunnel, according to Dmitryev, the Russian direct investment fund has invested and built the first Russian-Chinese railway bridge, and now is the time to connect the mainland for the first time, making Russia and the United States connected.
It can be seen that for the “Putin-Trump” railway tunnel Russia is indeed ambitious, the intention is to connect the continental Asia after construction, to realize the connections of China, Russia, the United States and even Canada, in order to promote the strengthening of economic cooperation and benefit countries along the line.
However, the question lies in the current US-Russian relationship, who can be sure that the discussions between the two countries about the construction of the tunnel are not showcased? besides, Trump's attitude is very vague, neither denied nor acknowledged, this matter may not be seen as an iconic event that the US-Russian relations are expected to improve at the moment, and at least must wait until the end of the Russian-Ukrainian conflict, only after the possibility of negotiations.
More importantly, the railway tunnel connecting the United States and Russia involves great security issues. Even if relations between the United States and Russia improve, they will be in moderate opposition for a long time. In addition, Trump has only more than three years left in his term and is completely unable to support the construction period of the "Putin-Trump" railway tunnel. Unless Trump can guarantee that the Democratic Party will not come to power, this matter can only be regarded as a means of exerting pressure on Zelensky.
