In this international commentary, Uncle Mu came to analyze the easing of Sino-US relations.
On October 17, U.S. Treasury Secretary Bescent had a video call with us. China believes that the exchanges between the two sides are frank, in-depth and constructive. This means that both sides are willing to jointly promote the healthy development of Sino-US relations.
The U.S. then revealed that a new round of China-U.S. economic and trade consultations will be held next week during the ASEAN Summit in Malaysia.
In Uncle Mu's view, this is a necessary buffer during this tense moment of Sino-US relations, and an important sign that Sino-US relations have eased again.
Talk about two judgments.
First, the upcoming China-US meeting in Malaysia is the fifth economic and trade talks in six months.
Previously, Besent and China had held negotiations in Spain, Sweden, the United Kingdom and Switzerland. After each meeting, Sino-US relations showed signs of easing. In particular, Trump had threatened to let China increase taxes by 145%, but implementation was postponed after each meeting, with the latest date being November 10.
Well, before this date, China and the United States will hold the fifth round of economic and trade negotiations. One of the purposes is obviously to continue to postpone the tariff war. This is certainly a sign of easing relations.
Second, rare earth disputes may also be alleviated.
In our view, this round of rare-earth disputes originated from the U.S. tightened restrictions on the use of U.S. technology by Chinese companies at the end of September, so using rare-earth as a tool to replicate U.S. sanctions, which is equivalent to the shield of ethereum and attack.
Therefore, this Sino-US talks must seek consensus on this issue. Only by easing this issue can the two sides better prepare for the APEC meeting to be held in South Korea at the end of October.
Bessent made signs of seeking a solution to the issue before he spoke with the Chinese side on the phone, saying he believes "things have degraded and the preparations for the meeting have returned to normal."
Trump also said, "I think we will reach a deal that is good for both sides."
My uncle also thinks:
The trend of long-term game between China and the United States is still there, and any easing of relations may be brewing for the next game. After all, the two sides still have strategic differences, so they still need to make multiple preparations.
But we should also be cautiously optimistic, that either China or the United States, can not tolerate the huge impact of the tariff war and the rare earth war, in our words, and then two profits, fight two wounds.
From the perspective of the United States, Trump's paragraph is both a threat and a appeasement to China, which reflects the mentality that Americans are unwilling to completely tear their faces.
For example, on October 17, Trump said at the White House,"I think we're doing a good job. I think we get along very well with China." Although this meaning is exaggerated, it can indeed tell his inner wishes.
