On the afternoon of October 17 local time, Ukrainian President Zelensky arrived at the White House to meet with U.S. President Trump.
Several informed sources, citing CNN, that Trump and Zelensky had hours of closed-door talks accompanied by their respective senior assistants, and the atmosphere of talks was "tense, frank and sometimes even somewhat embarrassing", according to the report, Trump made it clear to Zelensky that at present Ukraine will not get long-range missiles capable of hitting deeper into Russian territory.
Following the talks, Trump wrote on social media that he “strongly suggested” that OU reach an agreement “should stop on the ground”, according to the existing front “immediately cease the war”, “respective proclaim victory”.
When Zelensky left the White House, he was asked if he was more optimistic that Ukraine would obtain the Tomahawk missile. He replied,"I am very realistic." Zelensky said that he and Trump discussed the issue of the United States providing long-range weapons to Ukraine, and "Ukraine needs to make more efforts to this end."
