US President Trump said in a question from a media reporter in Washington on the 16th that he would meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin "soon", about two weeks.
According to Xinhua Agency, Trump posted on social media saying that he had a long phone call with Putin that day, mainly discussing issues such as ending the Russia-Ukraine conflict and subsequent Russia-US trade. The two sides will hold a face-to-face meeting in Budapest, the capital of Hungary.
Trump wrote that his call with Putin was “effective” and “has made great progress.” The two sides agreed to hold a high-level US-Russian meeting next week, with the U.S. delegation headed by Secretary of State Rubio, with a meeting location to be determined.
Russian Assistant President Ussakov said on Friday that Putin and Trump spoke for about two and a half hours and that the two sides will immediately begin preparations for a possible meeting of the two leaders in Budapest.
Ushakov said on the 16th that Putin had a phone call with Trump that day to discuss issues such as Russia-US relations and the Russia-Ukraine conflict, and told the other party that even if the United States provided Tomahawk cruise missiles to Ukraine, it would not change the Russia-Ukraine battlefield situation.
Ussakov said that Putin reiterated Russia’s commitment to resolving the Ukrainian crisis through political and diplomatic means in the call. On the possibility that the United States could provide Ukraine with “tacks” missiles, Putin reiterated that the “tacks” missiles will not change the situation on the battlefield and will only cause “significant damage” to Russian-US relations and the mediation operation around the crisis in Ukraine.
Ushakov also said that the call was initiated by the Russian side and lasted about two and a half hours.Trump emphasized in the call that ending the Russian-Ukrainian conflict would open up broad prospects for Russian-Ukrainian economic cooperation.
White House spokeswoman Levitt told reporters on Monday that Trump and Putin had talked for more than two hours, saying Trump still believed it was “possible” for Putin and Ukrainian President Zelensky to negotiate directly to end the Russian-Ukrainian conflict, “I think the president (Trump) didn’t close the door at all.”
However, in response to a question about whether Putin pledged to hold a tripartite meeting of U.S.-Russia-Ukraine leaders, Levitt simply said that Putin pledged to sit down and talk to Trump.
Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban tweeted on social media that day confirming that Trump and Putin planned to meet in Budapest and said "we are ready."
According to TASS news agency on October 16, the last call between the two presidents of Russia and the United States has passed 59 days, which is also their eighth call this year.
