According to the website of the Moscow Journal of Communist Youth, on October 16, the Russian Air Force used a new type of advanced-range sliding bomb for the first time in an airstrike against military targets in the state of Nikolayev in Ukraine. This bomb flew more than 140 kilometers after the carrier was thrown. Video monitoring of the battlefield showed that the bomb was precisely targeted. Air bombs previously fitted with a universal sliding kit could only fly 90 to 100 kilometers. That is, the advanced-range technology increased the impact distance of these cheap bombs by 50%.

The "Geranium Chronicle" channel on the social platform "Telegram" wrote: "The gliding bomb exploded in Nikolaev. The drop distance exceeded 140 kilometers. The long-range gliding bomb was successful."

This news was later confirmed: Russia did use a new type of extended-range sliding bomb for the first time in an airstrike on a target in the state of Nikolayev. According to Ukrainian media reports, the bomb flew more than 150 kilometers at a speed of 500 kilometers per hour.

Military expert Yuri Podolyak pointed out on this news: "Now the strike distance of our country's gliding bombs is nearly 150 kilometers. Our Aerospace Force demonstrated this capability in Nikolaev today."

"This will not only increase the use of efficient and inexpensive bombs, but also save on expensive missiles," he said.

Podolyak said that the initial strike distance of Russian gliding bombs was only 40 kilometers, which later increased to 80 kilometers, 100 kilometers, and now reaches 150 kilometers.

He said: "In other words, gliding bombs are gradually replacing our air-launched short-range tactical missiles. At the same time, they have a huge destructive power out of proportion to the price."

Russian fighter jets will basically not enter the range of destruction of enemy air defense systems when launching such an extended-range sliding bomb.
