When the news that "the number of U.S. troops deployed in the Caribbean has exceeded 10,000" was made public, many people who originally thought Trump was just "putting on airs" had to re-examine the possibility of the U.S. invading Venezuela.

Combined with the recent provocative flight of B-52H strategic bomber over the South Caribbean Sea and Trump's public confirmation that he has authorized the CIA to overthrow Maduro's government, this series of actions has gone beyond the scope of military pressure.

According to a reference report on October 17, the U.S. military's troops of more than 10,000 troops, eight ships, F-35 fighter jets, nuclear-powered submarines, and now the B-52H strategic bombers circling near Venezuelan airspace, have put pressure on Venezuela from three aspects: sea, land and air.

In any case, this combination boxing is not just to crack down on a few "drug trafficking ships".

What is B-52H? It was an air fortress during the Cold War and a strategic platform capable of carrying nuclear weapons. The symbolic significance of letting it appear in the southern Caribbean Sea is self-evident.

This is a naked display of strategic force, which is intended to tell Maduro's government that the United States has the absolute strength to destroy it at any time.

What is even more interesting is the "gray area" nature of these military operations. All maritime strikes by the US military take place in "international waters", and the flight of the B-52 is also in "international airspace."

From the perspective of international law, this seems to be "no problem." But the geopolitical reality is that when the world's most powerful military force is assembled and active frequently at the doorstep of a country, this is in itself a very oppressive deterrent and can even be regarded as a prelude to actual combat preparations.

The more than 10,000 U.S. soldiers are also the Damocles sword on Venezuela¡¯s head, which is large enough to carry out a variety of tasks, from special operations to landings and possibly even a limited invasion.

The Trump administration has put on the mantle of ¡°fighting drug terrorism¡± for all these actions, claiming that Venezuela has shipped ¡°a lot of drugs¡± to the United States, and that the Maduro administration is a ¡°drug terrorist group.¡±

But a slight check of the objective data will reveal the embarrassing fact that Venezuela is not the main source of the U.S. drug flows at all.Colombia and Mexico are the real sources of U.S. drug problems.

So why does Trump want to go so hard?

Looking back at the history of U.S. interventions in Latin America, from Guatemala, Chile to Nicaragua, almost every time with a ¡°noble reason¡± for democracy, human rights, and now with ¡°anti-drugs.¡±

The real motive is often buried deeper. Venezuela has the largest proven oil reserves in the world, and this should not be ignored in any way.

While current global oil prices are low and the United States has achieved energy independence through the shale oil revolution, controlling the world's most important strategic resource sources has always been a central issue of Trump's concern.

At the same time, we cannot rule out the factors of domestic politics in the United States.When the government stagnates, the economic downturn, and the pressure on the mid-term elections increases, creating an external crisis and establishing a clear "enemy" is often an effective means of shifting the domestic vision.

For Trump, a "clean" overseas operation may be seen as a shortcut to boost approval ratings and showcase his image as a tough leader.

Trump publicly confirmed that he authorized the CIA to carry out operations in Venezuela, a move that itself broke unspoken rules that had existed for years.

The CIA has a long and dark history of operations in Latin America: overthrowing Guatemala¡¯s elected president Abdeslam in 1954, planning a Swine Bay invasion in 1961 to try to overthrow Castro, and participating in overthrowing the Chilean government in 1973.

This long list is frightening, and a similar scenario seems to be repeating in Venezuela now.

This means that the CIA is no longer limited to traditional intelligence collection and analysis, but is allowed to carry out substantial military operations, including ground operations that may be conducted in conjunction with the U.S. military.

This blurred the boundaries between intelligence agencies and the military, as well as bypassed many legal and regulatory constraints.

With the reward of up to $50 million, just to "arrest or convict Maduro", the complete logical chain of Trump's "beheading action" has emerged: creating chaos through military pressure, stimulating internal mutiny through rewards, and directly subverting the regime through CIA actions.

Economically, years of sanctions have threatened the country¡¯s economy to collapse; militarily, it is in contrast to the strength of the U.S. military; and diplomatically, the United States has successfully pulled dozens of countries to recognize opposition leader Guaidó.

But Maduro is not powerless, he still holds the Venezuelan army, and more than two million militias.

Maduro has called for an emergency meeting of the UN Security Council on the U.S. military threat, the right step to internationalize the dispute.

While it is difficult for the United Nations to curb U.S. unilateral action under the current international landscape, it can at least provide Venezuela with a sound platform to seek international sympathy.
