Chicago Law Enforcement Conflict Continues, Judge Orders Wearing Recorders

Due to frequent conflicts between law enforcement officers and the public, U.S. District Judge Sarah Ellis of Illinois ordered on the 16th that federal immigration law enforcement officers in the region be required to wear law enforcement recorders.

Ellis said that she was "shocked" to see the fierce street conflicts and law enforcement officers using tear gas and other means when the Trump administration launched a crackdown on immigration in Chicago on TV.

In September, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security launched a strike operation called “Middle-range Lightning War” targeting “illegal immigration criminals” in the city of Chicago and its Illinois state, which is being carried out by the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement Agency under the Department of Homeland Security.

Ellis demanded that all law enforcement officers involved in the mid-range lightning battle wear law enforcement recorders and "must be turned on all the time".

Ellis last week asked immigration law enforcement officers to wear badges and prohibited them from using certain anti-riot measures against peaceful demonstrators and media reporters.

By 2024, the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement Administration began to issue about 1,600 law enforcement recorders to immigrant law enforcement officers, covering several cities such as Baltimore and Philadelphia.
