Shikoku offers sacrifices to Yasukyu, Foreign Ministry responds

[Global Times-Global Network Reporter Suo Yanqi] According to comprehensive Japanese media reports, Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba offered a sacrifice named "Zhenzhen" to the Yasukuni Shrine, which enshrines Class-A war criminals of World War II, in the name of "Prime Minister of the Cabinet" on 17th. The Yasukuni Shrine will hold a three-day autumn festival from 17th. On the same day, sanae takaichi, president of the Liberal Democratic Party of Japan, offered "jade skewers" (sacrifice fees) to the Yasukuni Shrine.

At the regular press conference of the China Ministry of Foreign Affairs held on October 17, Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Lin Jian said in response to a reporter's question "What is China's opinion on this?" that the Yasukuni Shrine is a spiritual tool and symbol for Japanese militarism to launch a foreign war of aggression, and enshrines 14 Class-A war criminals who bear serious responsibilities for the war of aggression. China firmly opposes Japan's negative movements regarding the Yasukuni Shrine and makes solemn representations to Japan.

This year is the 80th anniversary of the victory of the Chinese people's war against Japan and the world anti-fascist war, correct understanding and treatment of history is an important prerequisite for Japan's return to the international community after the war, is the political basis of Japan's development relations with surrounding countries, but also to test whether Japan can adhere to the promise of peaceful development. We urge the Japanese side to look forward to and reflect on the history of aggression, to act cautiously on historical issues such as Yogyakarta, to completely cut off with militarism, adhere to the path of peaceful development, and take practical actions to trust Asian neighbors and the international community.
