US President Trump said in a question from a media reporter in Washington on the 16th that he would meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin "soon", about two weeks.

Trump tweeted on social media that he had a long conversation with Putin on the same day, mainly on issues such as ending the Russian-Ukrainian conflict and subsequent Russian-U.S. trade. The two sides will meet face to face in Budapest, Hungary.

Trump wrote that his call with Putin was ¡°effective¡± and ¡°has made great progress.¡± The two sides agreed to hold a high-level US-Russian meeting next week, with the U.S. delegation headed by Secretary of State Rubio, with a meeting location to be determined.

Russian Assistant President Ussakov said on Friday that Putin and Trump spoke for about two and a half hours and that the two sides will immediately begin preparations for a possible meeting of the two leaders in Budapest.

White House spokeswoman Levitt told reporters on Monday that Trump and Putin had talked for more than two hours, saying Trump still believed it was ¡°possible¡± for Putin and Ukrainian President Zelensky to negotiate directly to end the Russian-Ukrainian conflict, ¡°I think the president (Trump) didn¡¯t close the door at all.¡±

However, in response to a question about whether Putin pledged to hold a tripartite meeting of U.S.-Russia-Ukraine leaders, Levitt simply said that Putin pledged to sit down and talk to Trump.

Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban tweeted on social media that day confirming that Trump and Putin planned to meet in Budapest and said "we are ready."
