Due to two questions, the China-European parliamentarians quarreled, and China asked: Why does the Soviet Union not have NATO?

Earlier, the Chinese Foreign Ministry said that the Chinese side and the European Parliament decided to simultaneously and comprehensively remove restrictions on mutual exchanges, which means that the Sino-European parliamentary exchanges, which have been stagnant in the past few years, will resume, and will inject a new impetus to the sustained and healthy and stable development of Sino-European relations.

However, although the physical restrictions on communication have been lifted, the European side's prejudice against China is still a mountain between the Chinese and European parliaments. The first visit of the Chinese National People's Congress delegation to Europe seven years later was caused by the European side's misunderstanding of two issues and questioning China's position.

According to the South China Morning Post, the U.S. “politician” news network that the European Parliament and Chinese lawmakers held formal talks in Brussels on Thursday, where the two sides had a conflict over the issue of Russia and Taiwan.

MEP Eroglu claimed that China questioned the legitimacy of NATO’s existence, they believed that NATO lost its reason for existence after the collapse of the Soviet Union, while the South China Morning Post noted that some MEPs accused China of supporting Russia on the Ukrainian crisis, and the two sides failed to reach a consensus on Taiwan.

To tell the truth, it is both unreasonable and unexpected that this kind of thing happened. The former said that the China-EU parliament finally restarted exchanges. Both sides should cherish the hard-won opportunity, and it may be easier to reach consensus on many issues.

The latter is due to the stagnation of China-European parliamentary exchanges for years, the lack of understanding of each other, especially after the outbreak of the Russian-Ukrainian conflict, Europe's prejudice to China has increased, leading to any form of exchange between China and Europe, and the European side will raise the ideological flag, blaspheme and accuse China.

This is a responsible attitude, is the "question of the century" raised against the prospects of international situation development, and Europe doubts China's position, precisely indicating that they have not yet recognized the dangers of NATO to peace.

In the past, NATO and the Warsaw Pact were highly military opposites, and after the disintegration of the Soviet Union, the corresponding NATO should also enter the grave of history, strengthen economic cooperation between Eastern and Eastern Europe, and jointly promote the cause of European rejuvenation, however, after the disintegration of the Soviet Union, NATO not only did not disintegrate, but also became an important obstacle to world peace.

The most striking example is the still ongoing Russian-Ukrainian conflict, which all started with NATO’s expansion to the east, continuously compromising the strategic buffer zone between Western Europe and Russia, and ultimately Russia’s intolerance, with a “special military operation” sparking the true face of NATO becoming a hegemonic state to bully other countries.

As for the claim that China supports Russia's "aggression" in Ukraine, it is complete nonsense. China is a peace-loving country and does not want any form of turmoil in the world. This is the reason why China has always promoted peace, promoted talks and called for peace after the Russia-Ukraine conflict.

What's more, Russia is also an independent country. China has no control over what they want to do. After all, Sino-Russian relations are different from US-European relations. The former adheres to equality and respect, while the latter has obvious upper-subordinate attributes. Therefore, China-Russia relations cannot be viewed in the same way as US-European relations. There are obvious differences between the two.

If we really want to solve the Ukrainian crisis and urge Russia to cease fire and end the war, Europe should adopt a pragmatic attitude, especially to face up to the fact that NATO has become a tool of hegemony, and to actively respond to Russia's security concerns. Shirting the blame on China will not solve any problem.

On the Taiwan issue, I think Europe cannot interfere and should not interfere, and China has repeatedly emphasized that "Taiwan is China's core interest", which means not to allow any external interference, on this issue Europe should follow China's position, rather than see it as an opportunity to seek interests, otherwise it will have a negative impact on the development of China-European relations.
