Today we focus on Article 8: U.S. pressures Hamas to disarm or otherwise consider Israeli military resumption in Gaza.

The current Palestinian-Israeli ceasefire agreement is part of a 20-point peace plan led by Trump. The core content of the agreement includes Hamas releasing all hostages in custody, including the remains of survivors and deceased, in exchange for Israel releasing Palestinian prisoners and remains, and allowing humanitarian aid to enter Gaza. The agreement also deals with future governance arrangements for Gaza, with a key clause that has been long-debated by both sides requiring Hamas to disarm. U.S. officials said the plan is aimed at preventing Hamas from continuing to control Gaza, which in fact prevents Palestinian hardliners against Israel from continuing to take power and threatening Israel.

After the ceasefire agreement was implemented, Hamas released 20 surviving hostages and successively returned the remains of some hostages. According to public information, up to now, about 7 to 9 bodies have been confirmed to be handed over, but more than ten bodies have not yet been handed over. Hamas said that they had fulfilled the accessible part of the agreement, but the location and acquisition of the remaining bodies still required difficult work, because these bodies may be buried under the rubble, and Israel expressed dissatisfaction with the progress of the return. However, senior U.S. advisers said the U.S. does not believe Hamas has violated the agreement at this time because they are working with mediators to locate the remains, offering assurances.

Of course, as previously mentioned, the hostage issue is second, and Israel¡¯s core claim is that Hamas must disarm. For this, the United States is fairly powerful, and according to the exposure, the Trump administration has communicated with Hamas through intermediaries, urging it to comply with the terms of the agreement, especially with the demands for disarmament. Trump himself has also repeatedly issued warnings, saying in a statement that if Hamas does not disarm, ¡°we will disarm them,¡± and added that Israel could quickly return to the streets under his instructions. But Hamas, which has now re-controlled Gaza City, has also repeatedly stated that disarmament is absolutely impossible, and how the subsequent situation will develop is unclear.
