The United States announces a $1,000 levy on immigrants entering the country with humanitarian exemption

A reporter from the headquarters learned on October 16, local time, that the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) announced a $1,000 fee on immigrants who are allowed to enter the country through humanitarian parole, aiming to "strengthen accountability, prevent abuse and improve supervision mechanism".

Tricia McLaughlin, Assistant Secretary of Homeland Security, said that by imposing this new fee, President Trump and Kristi Noem, Secretary of Homeland Security, can ensure that foreigners must take responsibility for staying in the United States.

The fee will be collected jointly by the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) after the exemption is approved.
