A South Korean man in Cambodia was caught in the "pork" hell after 61 days of drinking and drinking sewage.

Since 2025, 330 Korean citizens have been notified of missing contact or illegally detained after entering Cambodia. Recently, there was even an incident that a Korean college student was suspected of being kidnapped to death by a local criminal group. On the 15th, the South Korean Foreign Ministry urgently issued a travel ban on parts of Cambodia.

According to Korea JoongAng Daily, a South Korean man with the pseudonym "Xu Minzheng" told about his shocking experience in Cambodia. At the beginning of July, he went to Sihanoukville for a holiday. After meeting two Chinese men in a casino, he was tricked and detained. The other party not only robbed him of all his belongings, but also beat him for three days in a row, smashed him in the face with wine bottles and ashtrays, and asked him to pay a ransom of $5,000 to $10,000, otherwise he would be "resold".

He was contacting the Korean Embassy in Cambodia via Telegram for help, and the other person replied, “Maybe it will take two or three days to wait,” but the rescue was not delayed. Afterwards, he was sold to an intermediary who operated in two locations in China and South Korea, nicknamed “Tirou” and was forced to join a cyber fraud group. A few days later, the Cambodian police raided the park and he was arrested along with a member of the fraud group.

He recalled that he was imprisoned in a crowded cell of about 4 x 5 meters, with more than 35 people crowded in humid, sweat-smelled and worm-filled spaces, drinking sewage only twice a day. After being detained for about five weeks, he was transferred to an immigrant detention center, but still had to pay 1 million yuan (approximately RMB 5200) to call.

In another case, two South Korean men, Kim and Lee, also escaped with the assistance of Senator Park Chan-tai. According to Yonhap News, Kim went to Cambodia after seeing a high-paying job advertisement claiming that "a monthly salary is as high as 8 million to 15 million won." After arriving, he was forced to pretend to be an official to engage in telecommunications fraud. If he refused, he was threatened with electric shocks.

The two were transferred to Poipet and Sihanoukville, and were imprisoned for three to five months. During this period, they were forced to work in handcuffs and could only ask for help from the outside world through Telegram. After Li's mother asked the South Korean Ministry of Foreign Affairs and lawmakers for help, Cambodia police raided the hotel involved in the case in early October and arrested several Chinese and Korean managers. The two were finally rescued.

South Korean media pointed out that Cambodia has become the hardest hit area in telecom fraud and "pig selling" cases in recent years. Most of the victims come from East Asian and Southeast Asian countries. Criminal organizations often use "high-paying recruitment" to lure victims into forced labor after entering the country. South Korea's Ministry of Foreign Affairs has called on people not to travel to high-risk areas and warned that "advertisements for high-paying overseas jobs" are likely to be a human trafficking trap.
