Why is China issuing new rules on rare earths? Can the 33 Western countries unite together really make China withdraw its decision? Are the US Treasury Secretary's words trying to drag everyone down?

Since Trump came to power again, the small move has not stopped, one time expanding the ban on the export of chips, one time imposing high tariffs on Chinese goods, and also pulling allies to "deconnect", the purpose is clear, is to suppress China's high-tech industry momentum.

And rare earths are precisely a key node.

If you know, the production of important equipment such as fighter jets, missile guidance systems, and radars in the United States is inseparable from rare earths. Europe's green industries such as new energy vehicles and risk projects are also very dependent on China's rare earth exports.

In fact, China had already awakened the United States in August, saying that there would be more than expected countermeasures, and the new rules on rare-earth export controls introduced on October 9, but fulfilled previous warnings.

However, it must be emphasized that China's new regulations this time are not one-size-fits-all, nor are they so-called "export bans". As long as they comply with the regulations, they will be approved in accordance with the law. A spokesperson for the Ministry of Commerce made it clear that this is a legitimate practice for China to improve its export control system in accordance with laws and regulations, with the purpose of jointly maintaining the security and stability of the global production and supply chain.

Importantly, China¡¯s absolute superiority in the field of rare earth is not something that anyone who wants to replace can replace.

China not only has the largest rare earth reserves in the world, but also holds many patents on key technologies such as separation, smelting, and finishing. It is a complete industrial chain from mining to application.

On the other hand, even if there are rare earth mines in the United States, there is no relevant technical support. The mining cost is very high and the purity extracted is not enough. Even some mines in the United States have to specially transport the ore to China for processing. Let alone the European Union, it does not even have an independent rare earth industry chain and can only rely on imports.

Faced with China's new rules on rare earths, the 33 Western countries were quite "united" this time, posing as if they wanted to join forces and exert pressure from the beginning.

The EU trade commissioner said it would take a strong response under the coordination of the G7 and would not even rule out the U.S. to take tougher measures. Denmark¡¯s foreign ministers were more direct, saying the EU is the world¡¯s largest trade group, and they must show their strength and work with the U.S. to pressure China.

Trump on the other hand brought out his own tariff bar, threatening to impose a 100% tariff on Chinese goods, but didn't think, this was said not long ago, the U.S. stock market suffered "black Friday", the three major stocks indicated laxation, the market a panic. U.S. Finance Minister Bessent at the beginning also said that China is "against the whole world", trying to pull everyone down.

The opposite is big, and everyone can see that the United States has nothing to increase taxes at all.

The same is the case with the European Union, which is the murderer of the mouth, in fact, it is very obscure. they themselves admit that the degree of dependence on China's rare earth is very high, there is really no supply, new energy, automobiles and key industries, may face the risk of stopping, if the relationship with China is stiffened, losing or themselves.

China's attitude has also been very clear: fight and accompany it to the end; talk and the door is open. But the premise is that we cannot want to talk while suppressing it at the same time. This is not what cooperation should look like, and China will never accept it.

After all, win-win cooperation is the long-term solution. Pressure and threats cannot solve any problem.
