Turkish Coast Guard detains 104 illegal immigrants

According to Turkish media reports on the 16th, the Turkish Coast Guard recently carried out several operations in the Aegean Sea in the western part of the country, detaining 104 illegal immigrants.

Turkish Broadcasting Television that a rubber boat carrying illegal immigrants had a engine failure in the outer sea of Izmir province yesterday, and the Coast Guard sent rescue forces to rescue and detain 32 people on board the boat. In addition, the Coast Guard also blocked two rubber boats in the waters near the province, detaining 34 and 38 illegal immigrants, respectively, and detaining a suspect of human trafficking.

Data released by the Turkish Coast Guard on the 16th showed that since the beginning of this year, a total of 282 suspects suspected of human trafficking have been arrested across Turkey, a decrease from 370 in the same period in 2024. A total of 16,377 illegal immigrants were intercepted, down from 43,714 last year.

In recent years, the Aegean Sea has been an important gateway for illegal immigrants trying to travel through Turkey to Europe.
