After China builds seven emergency granaries, there are no worries about Sino-US confrontation

According to Xinhua News Agency, on October 14th, local time, China's State Administration of Grain and Material Reserves announced the latest construction of China's grain production, reserve and emergency support system.

China has built seven regional food emergency support centers, forming a four-level emergency plan system from the national to the county level.

The meaning of this system is not only to deal with climate change or market volatility, but also to safeguard national food security in complex international situations and to solidify the strategic bottom line.

In recent years, the global geopolitical environment has become increasingly complex. Tensions in the Taiwan Strait, South China Sea and other regions cannot be ignored, and the game between China and the United States has also intensified. In the context of this "world of great strife", food security has become an important factor affecting national stability.

Data show that China's grain output has been stable at more than 1.3 trillion catties for five consecutive years. In 2024, it will exceed 1.4 trillion catties for the first time. The per capita grain possession will reach 500 kilograms, far exceeding the international food security line of 400 kilograms.

This not only demonstrates China’s strong capacity in food production, but also provides a solid guarantee for responding to emergencies.

Nevertheless, China still needs to import some food crops from the international market, such as soybeans, wheat, barley, etc., mainly for feed and industrial fields. In order to avoid the risks brought by the international situation, China has established grain import cooperation networks with Russia, Thailand, Kazakhstan and other countries.

For example, the China-Russia cooperation of the "New Land Food Corridor" project ensures the stability of the food supply chain and reduces dependence on Western countries by building food transportation centers.

In addition to grain production and international cooperation, China's grain reserve system is constantly improving. The State Administration of Grain and Material Reserves said that the total reserve capacity of granaries that have been built so far exceeds 730 million tons.

These granaries can not only meet daily needs, but also quickly allocate food resources under extreme circumstances to ensure stable food supply across the country. Whether it is natural disasters, traffic jams, or sudden changes in the international situation, China can rely on this system to respond calmly.

The layout of food security is not isolated, it is closely related to the strategic reserve system such as energy security, resource security.China's layout in the energy sector has also made significant progress in recent years.

For example, natural gas pipeline projects in Central Asia and Russia can supply 50 billion cubic meters of natural gas every year, providing a solid guarantee for domestic energy demand. At the same time, China has implemented export restriction policies in the field of rare earth resources to give priority to ensuring domestic supply. This comprehensive strategic reserve layout has further consolidated China's underlying support in global competition.

However, food security is not China alone. Global food security is becoming increasingly serious due to climate change and geopolitical conflict. While the United States, India and other countries are major food producers, they are also facing insufficient reserve systems or supply chain instability.

Food security has never been a simple livelihood issue, but it is related to the long-term development and strategic stability of the country. Today, with the increasingly complicated global situation, China has built a solid line of defense through the all-round layout of production, storage, circulation, emergency response and international cooperation.

However, in the face of climate change, geopolitical conflict and international supply chain uncertainty, food security remains an important issue that needs long-term attention.
