New progress has been made eight years after the century divorce case between Korean SK Group chairman Trai Taizong and former president Lutei Dumbo's daughter Luseng, and on October 16, the Supreme Court of South Korea revoked the previous second-instance judgment and reinstated the trial.
The court previously ruled in the second instance that the two sides would divide 1,388 trillion yuan (about 69,3 billion yuan) of property and compensate for 2 billion yuan of comfort. This was the highest amount of divorce property division in South Korea's history, because 30 billion yuan of both sides' assets were found to be illegal funds of Lutherdale, the Supreme Court therefore made the above judgment.
Born in 1960, Trudeau was the eldest son of Trudeau, founder of the SK Group, one of the five largest consortiums in South Korea, and the mother of Park Guizhou, founder of the Nabi Art Center. As a second-generation financial venture, he has served as the third chairman of the SK Group since 1998, and as chairman of the Korean Chamber of Commerce, and has led the acquisition of Hynix (now SK Healyx), transforming the group into a core company with semiconductors and energy.
Lu Suying was born in 1961, the eldest daughter of Lu Taiyu, the 13th president of South Korea.
In 1988, Lu Taiyu became president, and Cui Taiyuan and Lu Suying got married in Cheongwadae that year. They had one son and two daughters.
In 2011, the two separated. In 2015, Cui Taiyuan disclosed his cohabitation relationship with his lover Kim See-young and exposed his extramarital daughter, triggering divorce proceedings.
In December 2022, a first-instance court ruled the divorce of the two, and the two sides divided the property of 66.5 billion yuan, and Trudeau source paid Lussinger 100 million yuan in comfort.
Lu Suying appealed against the judgment of the court of first instance on the division of property.
In May 2024, the second-instance court ruled that the two sides would divide the property of 1,388 trillion won (including SK shares) and pay compensation of 2 billion won.
On October 16, 2025, the Supreme Court ruled that the division of property was revoked and issued a re-trial, confirming the maintenance of 2 billion yuan of comfort.
The Supreme Court believes that the original second-instance judgment identified former President Luthern's 30 billion yuan as a contribution to Luthern, which sparked a dispute over the military government's illegal funding, and the Supreme Court believed it was a bribery accepted by Luthern's foolishness, thus overturning the second-instance judgment.
This case is the highest amount in the history of South Korea's divorce property division case, and the two sides have strong social and political influence, Truthy's unrelenting love with married foreign women, and Lussing's "guarding family" image, so it is known as the "century divorce case".
The division of assets involves 35% of SK Group shares held by Tretey Source, and the inheritance of children and group governance structure after the divorce may also change, and the outcome of the re-examination will have a significant impact on SK Group, both families and Korean society.
