British media: NATO intends to change the rules of warfare to "lift" the shooting of Russian aircraft

According to the British Daily Telegraph on the 14th, the internal NATO is probing to modify the rules of war, suggesting that NATO member states can shoot down Russian aircraft in specific circumstances, to shoot down the Russian aircraft.NATO officials suggested that a unified air defense system should be established to eliminate the differences between member states in the rules of war.

According to the report, NATO's Supreme Allied Commander in Europe and General Alexus Grynkevich of the US Air Force proposed that a "unified air defense and missile defense system" should be established to fill the "loopholes" existing among countries due to different rules of engagement. At present, some NATO member states have different standards on whether they can fire. Some require pilots to visually confirm the threat first, while others can take action based on radar data.

According to sources, the focus of the discussion on the new rules is on clarifying under what circumstances Russian aircraft can be identified as “threatening”, where “arms and flight trajectory” will be the key basis for determining the situation.

NATO Secretary-General Mark Luther said at the meeting that NATO member states had "all the necessary authority" to shoot down targets that pose a threat, but stressed that "if an aircraft does not pose a threat, we will not shoot it down in NATO airspace."

Estonia accused Russian aircraft last month of “violating airspace” and asked NATO to initiate consultations on Article 4 of the North Atlantic Treaty, according to the Russian side, which said the aircraft were performing routine flights to Kaliningrad over neutral waters and did not enter the airspace of other countries.

According to another report, the Danish military said that in response to Russian military activities in the Baltic Sea, NATO fighter jets had flown 29 times in June this year.

RT reported that the Russian side condemned NATO countries' recent threats to shoot down Russian aircraft as "reckless and irresponsible" and "dangerous consequences". Kremlin spokesman Peskov said the allegations that Russian military aircraft violated other countries' airspace were "groundless."
