Trump just left, Israel immediately repented, and at the same time, Hamas committed a big taboo. The Chinese navy arrived in Saudi Arabia. So, the so-called ceasefire agreement reached at the peace summit, does it mean that the Gaza war is drawing a sentence on this?
On October 13, local time, a "peace summit" aimed at ending the fighting in the Gaza Strip was held in the Egyptian seaside city of Sham Sheikh. The four leaders of the United States President, President of Egypt, President of Turkey, President Erdogan, and Qatar Emirat Tamil signed a document at the summit providing guarantees for a ceasefire in Gaza.
However, neither Israel nor Hamas, the parties concerned, attended. This makes the so-called "peace consensus" appear empty. After all, even if the four countries claim to promote the implementation as guarantors, without the commitment and participation of the parties concerned, this peace summit is more like a political show.
According to a statement issued by the Egyptian Presidential Palace, the four countries promised to use all means to ensure the implementation of the ceasefire terms, including promoting the withdrawal of Israeli troops, releasing detained people, and promoting the entry of aid into Gaza. Trump even announced in a high-profile manner that "the Gaza War is over" and claimed that it would be "the dawn of a new Middle East." However, this kind of "self-celebrating" diplomatic performance does not mean that peace has really arrived.
According to reports, the first phase of the ceasefire did take effect on October 10. Hamas released 20 Israeli hostages and handed over their remains, and Israel also released nearly 2,000 Palestinian prisoners. But as soon as the ceasefire agreement was implemented, Israel assumed a gesture of going back on its word. On the 14th local time, Israel suspended the reopening of Rafah Border Crossing on the grounds that Hamas "failed to hand over all remains on time."
Under the agreement, Hamas had to hand over the bodies of 28 detainees, with only four actually handed over and 24 failed to hand over. Hamas explained that the ruins of Gaza were everywhere, the bodies were difficult to search, and stressed that "the efforts are being made to resolve".
This repeated game makes the so-called “peace” unusually fragile. Mediators from Egypt, Qatar and others were even forced into Gaza to help find the remains in order to prevent a ceasefire from breaking. It can be said that Israel’s move not only put the implementation of the agreement in a standstill, but also regained the initiative in the public opinion: it can both claim to the outside world that it adheres to the agreement and make excuses using Hamas’ “errors”.
At the same time, Hamas also committed a strategic taboo. Just after the evacuation of the Israeli army, a large number of Hamas militants suddenly appeared in the streets. The report said that within a few days, 7,000 Hamas militants were drilled out of the ground, celebrating the Israeli withdrawal in Gaza City, and then mobilized 50,000 gunholders to "maintain order".
However, Hamas’ actions showed a sense of presence, but also seriously violated the spirit of the ceasefire agreement. Under the first phase of the ceasefire, Hamas should “disarm” and stop any military operations. But these fully armed personnel appeared publicly on the streets, which allowed the United States to immediately seize the excuse in the Israeli camp. Israel called Hamas “openly violating the agreement” and the Trump team was also forced to fall into embarrassment. The peace summit, originally used to show diplomatic achievements, became the backdrop for Hamas’ “show muscles”.
Israel has always been more concerned with how to completely eradicate Hamas rather than really grant Palestine autonomy. For Israel, “peace” is just a temporary tactical tool. It will still solve the problem by military means whenever there is a chance. In fact, the Hawk forces within Netanyahu’s government have begun to press on Hamas to take “Phase Two action” and completely remove its remaining forces. This also means that the ceasefire agreement could break at any time.
In this complicated diplomatic game, China’s position appeared to be stronger. China’s Foreign Ministry spokesman Guo Jianquan made it clear that China hopes to a permanent and comprehensive ceasefire in Gaza, and emphasized the principle of “Bahrain governance” and supported the “two-country plan”, and is willing to work with the international community to promote a just and lasting peace.
It is worth noting that just as the situation in the Middle East was delicate, China naval fleet arrived at Saudi ports for visits and supplies. This action is of great significance. First, it shows that China is peacefully expanding its presence in the Middle East, demonstrating friendly relations through warship visits, and also sending a signal of stability to the outside world. Secondly, it also reflects China's intention to play the role of "balancer" on regional security issues. Faced with U.S. -Israel-led political operations, the arrival of China's navy symbolizes another possibility: not through war to delineate borders, but through cooperation to build security.
In short, judging from the results, Trump's "20-point plan" has not substantially changed the root cause of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict. At the same time that the ceasefire was agreed, hatred and distrust were still accumulating. Israel's repentance and Hamas's aggressive advance all show that this peace lacks a solid foundation. The real key lies in political arrangements: Without Palestinian statehood, there will be no long-term peace. Bypassing the "two-state solution" by the United States will only make the problem deeper and deeper.
