On October 15th, local time, the French Council of State rejected the appeal filed by French far-right leader Le Pen against his "disqualification from candidacy". On March 31, Le Pen was sentenced by a French court to imprisonment and fines for abuse of public funds and was prohibited from holding public office for five years. Le Pen had previously objected to her ban and asked the State Council to submit a "priority constitutional issue" to the Constitutional Committee for consideration.This immediately effective "candidacy loss" ruling prevented her from participating in possible legislative or presidential elections.
