Officer Michel Randriañera, who previously led the camp riot, said in a read-out of the takeover statement that the military decided to formally take over the regime under the premise that ¡°the Constitution was not respected¡± and that it would suspend the implementation of the existing Constitution and dissolve all public institutions other than the National Assembly, including the Senate, the Supreme Constitutional Court, the Independent Electoral Commission and so on.

Earlier on the 14th, the presidential palace of Madagascar issued a decree via social media announcing the dissolution of the National Assembly under the Constitution. Randy Nirina, a commander of the force, played a key role in supporting the 2009 coup before breaking up with La Giolina last week.

The similarities between the two coups were strong, AFP said, as the troops also joined the wave of anti-government protests 16 years ago against then-President Ravallumanna, forcing him to exile abroad.
