South Korea issues travel ban on parts of Cambodia, "strongly advises citizens to cancel their trips"

[Global Network Reporter Zhao Jiandong] According to Agence France-Presse, on the 15th local time, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Korea announced that Cambodia's Kampobo Mountain area, Bawi City and Poipet City were listed as no-travel areas in response to cases where Korean citizens were deceived, kidnapped and detained in Cambodia.

The South Korean Foreign Ministry said: “Country citizens who travel to or stay in the aforementioned areas may be punished under relevant regulations such as the Passport Act and strongly recommend that citizens who plan to travel to these areas cancel their trips.”

Dussoka, a spokesman for the Cambodian Ministry of Internal Affairs, confirmed that 80 South Korean citizens are currently detained by the Cambodian Immigration General Administration.Dussoka said that although South Korean officials have been in contact with the group, they “still refuse to return home.”

Earlier, some media reported that about 80 Korean citizens were in a state of "missing or unknown personal safety" in Cambodia, using the South Korean Foreign Ministry as a source.
