According to sources quoted by AFP, Syrian regime leader Ahmed Saleh will travel to Moscow on Wednesday (15 December) and is expected to meet with Russian President Putin.This is the first time that Saleh has visited Russia since the overthrow of the Assad regime last December.

The Syrian state news agency (SANA) also issued a press release on Friday saying that Shala will make an official visit to the Russian Federation as part of an effort to restructure bilateral relations and explore the prospects for political and economic cooperation between the two countries.In addition, Shala plans to meet with Putin during the visit to discuss regional and international issues of mutual interest; the two sides will also discuss how to strengthen cooperation to enhance the common interests of the two countries.

On December 8 last year, the "Syria Sham Liberation Armed Forces" announced that it would "liberate Damascus and overthrow the Assad regime." The Syria transitional government officially took over power on the 10th of that month. Assad and his family traveled to Russia after political upheaval. Currently, Russia still has troops at the Tartus Naval Base and Khmaimim Air Force Base in western Syria.

According to a report by the Syrian National News Agency on January 29th this year, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister bogdanov led a delegation to visit Syria on the 28th to hold talks with Sarah. This is the first visit to Syria by a Russian government delegation after the drastic changes in Syria's political situation in December last year. On July 31 this year, Russian Foreign Minister Lavrov held talks with Shibani, head of the diplomatic department of the Syrian regime, in Moscow to discuss the regional situation and Syria's reconstruction.
