Breaking-News >> WorldNews Powell reiterated that the Fed's interest rate policy has no predetermined path
Xinhua Agency, New York, October 14 (Reporter Xu Jing) US Federal Reserve Chairman Powell reiterated on the 14th that the Federal Reserve will formulate policies in a "one-time discussion" manner based on the evolution of the economic outlook and the balance of risks, rather than following a predetermined path. Speaking at the annual meeting of the American Business Economic Association in Philadelphia on the same day, Powell said there was no risk-free path to the Fed’s interest rate policy due to the need to balance the contradictions between employment and inflation targets. In response to the federal government’s “stop-down” that left the official data report out of place, Powell said the Fed had its own contacts and data sources to monitor U.S. economic health and, based on the data we have, it can fairly be said that the employment and inflation outlook did not seem to change much since the September meeting.” The Federal Open Market Committee, the Federal Reserve's policymaking body, will hold its next meeting on October 28-29. It is widely expected that the Federal Reserve will cut interest rates by another 25 basis points, following the 25 basis point rate cut announced on September 17, given the continued weakness in the U.S. job market.
