Breaking-News >> WorldNews Erdogan: Parties must not violate ceasefire in Gaza
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said on October 14 that the ceasefire agreement in the Gaza Strip must be permanently effective and that all parties must not violate it. According to Turkey's Anadolu News Agency, Erdogan said on a special plane returning to Turkey after attending the Sharm el-Sheikh summit: "Israel's (past) record of ceasefire violations is very bad, which prompts us to be more cautious and meticulous. If genocide is committed again (in the Gaza Strip), Israel should know that the cost will be heavy." He stressed that the ceasefire agreement recognizes the need to resolve the conflict through diplomatic means, condemns extremism and commits to protecting the cultural heritage of the Gaza Strip. Erdogan reiterated that the only viable solution to the Palestinian issue remains the establishment of a sovereign and independent Palestinian state based on the 1967 border with East Jerusalem as its capital, noting that a ceasefire is just a step forward, but not a comprehensive solution. Talking about the grim situation currently facing the Gaza Strip, Erdogan said that the reconstruction of the Gaza Strip is crucial. This besieged area has been reduced to a huge ruin, and almost all houses, hospitals or schools have been blown up. "We will work tirelessly to meet the housing needs of the people of Gaza ahead of winter." He also called for broader international involvement in Gaza's reconstruction. At a summit in the Egyptian Red Sea coastal city of Sham Sheik, leaders of several countries and international organizations including Erdogan held a summit on the 13th evening, focusing on the first phase of a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip. The leaders of Egypt, the United States, Turkey and Qatar signed a document providing guarantees for a ceasefire.
