U.S. Media: After signing an agreement to guarantee a ceasefire in Gaza, Trump avoids talking about Palestinian statehood

[Global Network Reporter Suo Yanqi] According to CNN, after signing a document in Egypt on the 13th local time to guarantee the ceasefire agreement in the Gaza Strip, US President Trump avoided talking about the Palestinian statehood on the return plane later on the same day and refused to directly answer whether he supported the recognition of the Palestinian state.

Reported that Trump told reporters on the presidential plane Air Force One returning from the Middle East,"I'm not talking about a single country or two countries. We're talking about rebuilding Gaza."

"Many people like the 'one-country solution'. Some people like the two-state solution. Let's take a look again." Trump said and said he had not commented on the topic.

CNN mentioned that a few weeks before Trump made the above statement, he criticized the international community's increasing support for Palestinian statehood. In addition, when Trump delivered a speech to the UN General Assembly last month, he called the "two-state solution" a "reward" for the Palestinian Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas).

On the evening of 13 October, leaders of several countries and international organizations held a summit in the Egyptian Red Sea coastal city of Sharm el-Sheikh, focusing on the first phase of the ceasefire in the Gaza Strip. At the summit, leaders of Egypt, the United States, Turkey and Qatar signed a document providing guarantees for the ceasefire agreement in the Gaza Strip. Meanwhile, Israel and Hamas exchanged detainees on the 13th, under the first phase of the ceasefire agreement in Gaza.

According to a statement issued by the Egyptian Presidential Palace, the summit emphasized that the international community must cooperate and provide all necessary means to ensure the implementation and continuity of the terms of the ceasefire agreement, including promoting a comprehensive ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, completing the exchange of detainees and prisoners, and realizing the withdrawal of Israeli troops and the entry of humanitarian aid into Gaza. Egyptian President Seyce emphasized in his speech at the summit that the "two-state solution" is the only way to achieve peaceful coexistence between Palestinians and Israelis.

It is worth noting that Hamas did not send delegates to the summit. Palestinian President Abbas attended the meeting and briefly met with Trump. Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu cancelled the visit at the last minute because of a Jewish festival that night.
