Local villagers and resort operators on the island also actively participated in the search operation. The whole search and rescue operation lasted seven days in total, but there was no clue.

On Monday, local time, authorities announced the end of the search and rescue operation.

Although the search and rescue operation officially ended at 10 a.m. on 12th, the waterside patrol and surveillance on the west coast to the northern Belt of Ghouta will continue to avoid missing any clues. He said the decision to end the search and rescue operation was based on a comprehensive assessment of the vast waters around Mantani Island, as no new clues have been found so far.

He also said that during the search and rescue operations of the past seven days, bad weather and waves have indeed had a certain impact on the search and rescue. However, despite the official end of the operation, the maritime patrol will continue on an irregular basis. At the same time, he called on tourist ships and fishermen from the West Coast to the North Coast to report immediately to the nearby police station as long as any clues relating to the two still missing tourists are found, and thanked all the institutions, local communities and local tourists involved; and despite the official end of the operation, the partnership demonstrated is appreciable.

The police announced that they stopped searching.

According to Southern Metropolis Daily, on October 13, a friend of the missing female tourist said,"The hotel currently explicitly refuses to provide the original version of surveillance videos to family members." Previously, my friend also said,"The family members are also very confused at present. They have already contacted the local people and hope to continue to offer rewards to find people. At present, the family members have no plans to return to China."

According to a previous report by Red Star News, on October 4, local time, two Chinese tourists disappeared while staying at the Silk Mermaid Resort in Mantanani Island, Sabah, Malaysia. The local police received a report from the security department of the resort at 7: 57 pm on the 5th, saying that two tourists failed to check out as planned and their whereabouts were unknown.

According to the investigation, the missing man is Yu Xiaopeng, 25 years old, from Weihai, Shandong, China, and works in Wuhu, Anhui. The woman's name is Fan Qin, 28 years old, a native of Wuhu. The two checked into the resort at 2: 14 pm on October 4th, and were scheduled to check out at 11: 30 the next day, but they lost contact since then.

Mr. Zhang, a friend of the missing man Yu Xiaopeng, told the Red Star News reporter that on October 3rd, Yu Xiaopeng mentioned that he might participate in activities such as snorkeling, watching the sunset or paddleboarding on the 4th, but his specific itinerary on that day is still unclear.

Mr. Zhang emphasized: "He usually chatted with me, but suddenly lost contact that day." After everyone discovered that something was wrong, Mr. Zhang said that he contacted Yu Xiaopeng's colleagues in his unit and asked them to go to his dormitory to check whether there were any electronic equipment left.

Mr. Zhang said that the other party found a tablet computer in the room and found the signal location of Yu Xiaopeng's mobile phone and Bluetooth headset through the device's positioning function. The results showed that the last signal from the mobile phone appeared deep in the sea, and of the two headphones, one was positioned in the urban area, while the other remained at sea.

A friend of the missing woman told Red Star News that on the morning of the 10th, the families of the two missing persons had just landed on the island of the incident (Mermaid Island). On the 7th, the missing woman's father and sister arrived in Kota Kinabalu (the capital of Sabah, Malaysia); on the 9th, the missing man's family also arrived in Kota Kinabalu, but the police said it was banned due to local weather throughout the day and it was impossible to land on the island immediately.

Zhu Xinglong, Consul General in Kota Kinabalu, had previously gone to Maolv County, Kota, where the incident occurred, to meet with the police director and the head of the search and rescue team to learn about the search and rescue situation. Consul General Zhu also asked the police to find out the cause of the accident as soon as possible, enforce the law impartially, and protect the legitimate rights and interests and life safety of China citizens.
