Canadian local government calls for lifting tariffs on Chinese electric vehicles

On the 11th local time, Manitoba Governor Kinew, Canada, sent a letter to Canadian Prime Minister Carney, asking the federal government to cancel the 100% tariff on China's electric vehicles.

In the letter, Kinew said that Canada's approach to imposing tariffs on Chinese electric vehicles "has triggered a bilateral trade war that has affected Western Canada particularly severely." China's countermeasures against Canada have caused the price of canola in Canada to fall sharply, and the pork production industry has been hit hard.

Kinew said Canada-China relations are currently at a "critical moment" and urged the Carney government to "seize the opportunity." Earlier, Saskatchewan Governor Moi also publicly stated that he hopes to cancel tariffs on China's electric vehicles. Data showed that Saskatchewan rapeseed exports to China in August fell by 76% year-on-year.
