Maduro calls for indigenous people to join Venezuelan militia

Xinhua News Agency, Caracas, October 12 (Reporter Tian Rui) Venezuelan President Maduro called on the indigenous people of the country to join militia groups on the 12th to deal with the threat posed to the country by the US military deployment in the Caribbean.

On the commemoration of "Aboriginal Resistance Day", Maduro asked Venezuelan militia organizations to speed up the recruitment of indigenous people to join the militia and set up indigenous militia brigades to defend the right of the people of the country to live peacefully.

Earlier in the day, Venezuelan Defense Minister Lopez said in a government communique that the U.S. military deployment was a repeat of old colonial methods. In the 21st century, the U.S. government still pursues a logic of rule, plunder and killing similar to that in the colonial period, trying to conquer sovereign countries with modern weapons. However, the Venezuelan people with a high sense of patriotism have been armed and organized to prevent the invaders from plundering like they did during the colonial period.

Every year on October 12, Venezuela celebrates the “Indigenous Resistance Day” to commemorate the indigenous peoples’ struggle against their invaders.

Since the beginning of September, the United States has deployed several warships in the Caribbean waters near Venezuela, claiming to have destroyed at least four so-called "drug ships" and killed more than 20 "drug traffickers".
